Summer fun and homemade play dough

June 27, 2018

This easy homemade playdough recipe has been around for a longtime. It is less crumbly and non-toxic than other recipes. You can create a batch in less than 10 minutes and it will last longer than the store bought variety.

MATERIALS:

2 tsps. Cream of Tartar • 1 cup of flour
• Food coloring
• 1/3 cup of salt

• 1 Tbsp. Vegetable or Canola Oil

• 1 cup of water
• 2 quart sauce pan • Wax paper
• Ziploc Bag

In a 2 quart sauce pan, add 1 cup of flour, 2 teaspoons of Cream ofTartar, ad 1/3 cup of salt. Yes 1/3 cup!! Apparently the salt keepsthe mixture from sticking AND also helps preserve it!

Turn your burner on medium low and stir. The mixture will be a little lumpy at first. Keep stirring until it starts getting a little solid. If your pan is hot, this may only take 20-30 seconds, but it may take 2-3 minutes if it’s still heating up.

Once the mixture is fully heated, add the food coloring right away.Stir in the food coloring until you achieve the desired color. You might also try AmeriColor Soft Gel Paste Food Color. Keep stirring until the dough starts gathering around the spoon. Once this happens you know you are finished. This process may take 20 seconds to 2 minutes from the time you put in the food coloring.

Remove your homemade playdough from the saucepan and put it on some wax paper to cool. Once cooled, knead the playdough in the Ziploc bag. If the playdough begins to dry out you can add afew drops of water.
